Karen H. Wakeford, MPA, has over 26 years of experience with community coalitions and health collaboratives, guiding them in strategic planning, program development, community engagement and outreach, and sustainability planning. She has provided targeted technical assistance for 51 ORHP grantees in 27 states (36 Rural Health Outreach, 4 Network Development, 6 Network Planning, and 4 Delta States). She is experienced in working with both administrative leaders and clinical staff of hospitals, Federally Qualified Health Centers, Rural Health Clinics, Mental Health Centers, public school systems, universities, and others to integrate health education and prevention, chronic disease management, and geriatric treatment into the primary care arena. She also has extensive experience in end-of-life research and advance care planning and program development. She has coordinated the organization and recruitment and facilitated focus groups for a wide range of health policy issues, including rural health care access, maternal and child health services, teenage pregnancy, state mental health services, and standardized insurance benefits. Karen is a longtime resident of rural Southwest Georgia. She is an alumna of both Leadership Albany and Leadership Georgia and has held leadership positions in numerous civic, church, fine arts, and social service organizations.
