John Butts, MPH, is a Research Associate and member of the Community Health Systems Development team at the Georgia Health Policy Center. In this role he provides technical assistance to ORHP-funded rural health initiatives across the country to support the implementation of their programs and strengthen their capacity for sustainability. John has over 4 years of experience providing technical assistance to grantees dating back to his work in New Orleans as Regional Coordinator for the statewide tobacco control program. Since joining the Georgia Health Policy Center in 2009, he was worked closely with 12 ORHP Outreach and Workforce Development initiatives, serving a diverse portfolio of grantees that include hospitals, community-health centers, county health departments, and community organizations. These grantee programs and collaborations address a wide range of community health issues, with many focused on health education & promotion, care integration, chronic disease management, and telehealth. First introduced to public health in 2002 when he served as a Community Health Agent in West Africa with the Peace Corps, Mr. Butts possesses a strong understanding of rural health issues and brings over 9 years of public health experience in program development, meeting facilitation, research methods, evaluation, coalition development, and advocacy.
